WE GROW FOOD IN CITIES.

The urbanization of the world makes bringing agriculture to our cities, not just a good idea, but essential. At the turn of the 20th century America was 95 percent rural. Today 81 percent of Americans live in cities. It is expected that 70 percent of the world’s population will be urban by 2050. Urban dwellers are becoming increasingly unhealthy. Our fast, processed food culture is leaving us with chronic ailments such as high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes.  Most of our food is grown from genetically modified and hybrid seeds, sprayed with petrochemical fertilizers and pesticides and shipped to us from around the world. By the time it gets to your table, more than likely it has travelled an average of 1500-2000 miles and been out of the ground or off the tree for quite some time. You have no idea who grows your food or the processes they use.

In the New American City, you will live within walking distance of where your food is grown. You will be happier, healthier, and more in touch with your community. Your children will live in safe, clean neighborhoods where jobs are plentiful, and practical education is celebrated. Natural urban agriculture brings us closer to the food that gives us life, creates jobs, expands education opportunities, and most importantly, it brings us closer to each other. One of the most significant social impacts of urban farming is that it prepares us for a sustainable future. The New American City will harness the power of design, urban agriculture, and entrepreneurism to change, for the better, the way we live our lives. Grocery stores will be supplemented by local farms. Your power will come from renewable resources. You will be healthier. This new urban lifestyle is an integral part of resetting the natural environment and reversing climate change.

The Builder

K. Rashid Nuri has been building farms for more than 50 years, and in 35 countries worldwide. While at Harvard, he had a ‘burning bush’ experience in which he received the message to learn everything about food from seed to table. He brought that vision to full realization in 2006, founding Truly Living Well Center for Natural Urban Agriculture in Atlanta (TLW). Rashid grew Truly Living Well into the largest urban agriculture education center in the country. He was an employer, educator, mentor, community leader. Today, he travels the country lecturing and consulting with urban growers, urban designers, and political leaders to help them realize the immense power of urban agriculture in their communities. Rashid is a master farm designer and fundraiser with a vision and commitment to growing healthy food, people and communities.

Rashid understands what action is needed to grow food where you live.
He is skill at:

Creating a strategic plan that allows you to determine which crops to grow on your land

Establishing a proper composting system to grow food organically

Training a new generation of urban agriculture entrepreneurs

Increasing food production for us all

Sustaining and expanding community outreach services

Increasing urban agriculture-based employment

Increasing political and community support

Targeting fundraising for a healthier community
